From Assistant to Patient

When I was a little girl, I always thought that I wanted to be a teacher. I had a class of stuffed animals, dolls, and barbies that were my Ginnie pigs as I practiced my teaching skills. I think by the time I was in Junior High, my interest in teaching slowly diminished.

By the time I entered High School, I became really interested in the dental field. I am not exactly sure how it happened, but I think it had to do with my weird obsession with teeth. I have a bad habit of starring at people's teeth when they talk. Weird, I know, but I think that teeth and smiles, if maintained well, are so beautiful. Anyways, so after working for a dentist all through high school, I was confident in my decision to became a dental hygienist. Well due to many different factors, I changed to dental assisting. This May, I graduated for Provo College as a certified dental assistant.

I really really enjoyed my dental assisting program and working in our on-site dental clinic. I loved sitting right beside the dentist and seeing for myself how to remove decay, place fillings, extract teeth, perform root canals ect....

After having a terrible tooth ache all weekend, I became the patient in the dental chair today. Diagnosis=root canal....not fun. Turns out, I hate going to the dentist now! Ok maybe I don't Hate it, but as you can imagine, it is not as fun as working for one...

After having two apicoectomys and having spent $4,000 on a tooth that eventually go pulled, I detest everything that has to do with dentistry (except you Bubby).

I haven't been to the dentist in almost 3 years. I'm scared that if I go, I'll have to get my wisdom teeth out. Sounds silly, I know. Sorry about your root canal. Doesn't sound fun at all! Hope you enjoy conference though. :-)
